Reducing waste and separating recyclable materials correctly means saving costs and protecting the environment. In your everyday life, you certainly also produce waste that can be avoided. We would like to give you some tips and suggestions. Give plastic bags a wide berth and bring your own shopping bags, nets or pouches instead. Shopping by shopping, you can reduce the mountain of throwaway plastic or paper bags. Shop where produce is openly available. Nature has provided many fruits and vegetables with a robust skin. For some varieties, the weighing label can be stuck directly onto the produce.
If possible, prefer reusable bottles for drinks, yoghurt, etc. Refill packs and concentrates (washing powder, shampoo) are cheaper, easier to carry and cause less waste. Look for durability and ease of repair in household goods (e.g. screwed items instead of riveted products). Do away with disposable items such as lighters, felt-tip pens, ballpoint pens and razors. These can be replaced by refillable products.
Do without unnecessarily packaged products (flowers in foil, champagne bottle in a cardboard box), which unnecessarily increase the amount of waste. Refrain from using elaborate double, triple or so-called gift packaging! If packaging cannot be avoided completely, choose those that can be recycled best (e.g. glass, cardboard). Packaging should be made of one material - if possible, do not buy composite packaging. The recycling loop is only closed when products made from recycled materials are also purchased (paper, glass, plastics).
A lot of waste can also be avoided when celebrating, e.g. by not using disposable tableware or by using a (rental) keg for serving beer.
Many things are too good to throw away. Ask your acquaintances if anyone can use any of them or give away items in good condition to charitable groups!
