SWG Städtische Wohnungsbau GmbH Sangerhausen has completed the demolition of a block of flats in Feldstrasse 1-5 with a total of 45 flats. The building was built in 1977 and no longer met today's requirements in terms of living comfort, energy efficiency and modern floor plans.
The demolition of the multi-storey building was financially supported with a total of EUR 237,000 as part of funding programmes. The funds for this came from urban development funding programmes from the Federal Republic of Germany, represented by the Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction and the state of Saxony-Anhalt. The aim of the funding is to adapt the housing stock to current demographic and urban development trends where there is a high vacancy rate and to demolish buildings that are no longer required.
The demolition is intended to create space for a possible new development or alternative use of the area in order to achieve „shrinkage with quality“. SWG explained that such measures are intended to support sustainable development, reorganisation and upgrading of the residential districts in the long term. The demolition itself was carried out according to plan and in compliance with all environmental, nature conservation and safety requirements.
